You understand so much its almost hard to argue with you (not that I actually would want to…HaHa). You definitely put a brand new spin on a subject that's been written about for ages.
If everyone on earth consumed like North Americans it would take 5 earths to support us. Obviously we have to find another way. Amazingly enough, according to the Food & Agricultural Association of the UN, what we eat contributes more to global warming than all of transportation. Livestock production contributes 18% of global warming gasses vs 12% for all transportation combined. Reducing or eliminating our use of animal products is more effective than driving Priuses, much cheaper, and has great effects on our health, a win win all around. When we eat meat we consume at least 10 times as much grain as we would if we ate the grain directly. Meanwhile 20,000 children a day starve to death. Marge and I went vegan 18 years ago and I'm so happy we did that. I feel like we eat like royalty, dining on plants, most of which are locally grown and organic. Our health is better than it was 20 years ago and we don't contribute to the suffering and death of 9 billion animals killed for food in the US every years. This feels good. (We also drive Priuses.)

We also participate in a spiritual community, a Buddhist Sangha in the Plum Villiage Tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, that makes it very clear that joy, happiness and peace, don't come from more stuff. Learning, contemplation, walks in nature, the company of friends also dedicated to transforming our relationship to ourselves, each other and the biosphere of which we are a strand, all bring deep, lasting satisfaction.

It is wonderful to be on the path to a flourishing world with all of you.

Thank you for listening.
